Monocultures destroy our lives and our environment

" I grow corn and yams to support my family. The products sprayed by the planes from the nearby sugar cane plantation have destroyed my crops. I've lost my source of income. How am I going to pay for my children's schooling? "

" In the river that runs alongside the oil palm plantations, fish and shrimp have disappeared."

" The products Socfin uses to collect latex contaminate our rivers and springs. The shallows, which were rich in biodiversity and helped us to live, have been destroyed

" We can no longer stand by and do nothing, so we have decided to organize ourselves with our neighbors in the villages around the Sosucam plantation "

Josephine Mbella,
victim of aerial spraying by Sosucam for 22 years

" For almost 10 years now, we have been organizing in all the villages surrounding the Salala Rubber Corporation plantation in Margibi County, as well as around the Liberian Agriculure Company in Grand Bassa, to join forces and defend our rights, our children's health and our environment against the corporate multinational. We are in contact with local collectives in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Cameroon to act collectively. "

Mac Georges, Justicitiz, Liberia

A union is an organization that defends the collective interests of its members. When the collective interests defended by a citizens' union coincide with broader ecological issues, we call it an eco-union.

All Across tropical Africa, people affected by the harmful impacts of monocultures are organizing to defend their rights and their environment, building eco-unions.

We are building an african movement of frontlines communities of toxic agriculture

Building non-violent citizen power for an

agro-ecological revolution

Worldwide, the agricultural sector is responsible for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions. Monocultures, land concentration, deforestation, growing use of pesticides, increased scarcity of water resources, etc.: the current agro-business model is the antithesis of the ecological transition needed to tackle the climate crisis and the collapse of biodiversity.

Let's join forces to achieve incremental victories
